Shirley Chisolm Park on MLK Day
Primary tabs

Wind gusts real feel of 25degrees. Ride canceled. Join us as we ride on MLK day to Shirley Chisolm Park in the heart of Jamaica Bay. Shirley Chisolm (1924-2005) was the first African American congresswoman, and the first African American woman from the Democratic Party to run for the presidency. She represented her Brooklyn district from 1968-2003. She was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Shirley Chisolm Park has beautiful scenic views of the Manhattan skyline on one side and the ocean surrounded by sea grass, hills & shore birds.
We will be picking up lunch at New Park Pizza in Howard Beach or Sugar Bun for bagels & coffee to grab & go. Please make sure your bike is in good working order. Please bring your helment, mask, spare tube, hydration and dress properly for the weather. You must feel comfortable riding on city streets, on the Belt Pkwy greenway and some hills. This is a moderate-lite ride, you must maintain a speed of 10-12 MPH on the greenways.
