Brooklyn Waterfront + VINTAGE TWEED PARADE in Prospect Park
Primary tabs

Here's an interesting and quite unique "combo" ride. We're going to cross the Bklyn Bridge over the (still new!) bike lane; cruise south along the Brooklyn waterfront, then cut over to Grand Army Plaza in Prospect Park to catch the 1PM gathering and start of this year's annual BROOKLYN TWEED RIDE. The Tweed Ride is an international event and one which has become popular in many USA cities, as well. We'll get to see a host of enthusiastic New Yorkers bringing out their inner Downton Abbey, with a few "pip pips" and a "tally ho" or so thrown in, all whilst in their nattiest and tweediest and vintage-y best. Expect some fabulous retro bikes, too. It will be quite the sight.
Along our waterfront portion we'll have great views of NYC's harbor and the East River, and will mostly be on well defined bike paths or lanes. When we cut over to Prospect Park, we'll head for the arches where the Tweed group meets, and have fun oogling and applauding the threads, looks, paraphenalia, bikes, and folks.
There will be no organized food acquisition stop, so pack along plenty of snacks and bevs and pocket food to nosh on along the way. If we can find a warm enough spot to hang out in Prospect Park, with good viewing, we might picnic a bit as we watch the Tweeds go by on their loops; otherwise we'll perhaps pedal for one loop after them to enjoy the spectacle. (And rumor has it they may gather at a local Bklyn spot apres-ride to imbibe a little; you're welcome to do so as well.)
Please arrive a bit before our 10AM ride time to check in, and so we can be prompt in starting and taking off and not get cold waiting around. Cue sheet will be distributed in advance to registered riders. And if there's any question about the weather or any change needed from such . . .it will be both posted to this description by 7:30AM the morning of plus emailed to riders.
