Historic Clock Ride - Queens and Brooklyn
Primary tabs

New York City once had a significant number of clocks around town which were advertisements for a nearby store. Some were attached to buildings, at least one was imbedded into a sidewalk, and others were perched on top of ornate posts. Only a small number of these public timekeepers exist today. We'll visit three of them, in Queens and Brooklyn, one of which was recently renovated as reported by the New York Times in an article on April 30, 2021.
The first clock is the recently renovated clock at the corner of Jamaica Avenue and Union Hall Street. From there, we'll ride through Forest Park on our way to the second clock in Greenpoint Brooklyn on the same block as the club's favorite place Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop. After the brief history of the clock, you'll take our lunch break at the place of your choice: pizza, bagel, ramen, pierogi, whatever! Of course dessert is from Peter Pan.
From Greenpoint, we ride to Astoria to see the third clock of our ride. We take a quick ride around the Unisphere in Flushing Meadow Park on our way back to Cunningham Park.
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS: A reminder that you must register for the ride. Please 'unregister' if you cannot make the ride so wait list folks can move up and take the slot. All riders should come equipped with a mask, hand sanitizer/wipes, a spare tube, tire levers, sunscreen, snacks, your filled water bottles, and a bike in good condition, as well as being familiar with the current criteria for riding with the Club.
Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/37587882 (subject to change)
This will be a Moderate-lite paced ride accommodating Happy Face in the back but NO LESS THAN 10 MPH. Please be comfortable with riding in traffic.
Always look for weather updates the night before and early morning of the ride in case mother nature is not being kind.
Come spend a hopefully cool Fall day, enjoying a good time with your favorite friendliest bicycle club.
