Time for Pie? Meets Yaphank LIRR Train Station
Sunday, September 26, 2021 - 10:00

Come join us, as we ride from the Yaphank LIRR train station out to the amazing Briermere Farms and their delicious pies (some of the best pies ever).  Hopefully, we will be able to see a herd of Bisions and perhaps a llama or two along the route.  Where possible we take light traffic roads, though we do have more than a few somewhat busier roads along the way.  The ride is 50-55 milesof  flat to mostly rolling hills with a bit over 1,000 feet of elevation gain.  The ride is listed as advanced moderate for distance but the intent is to tour, with speeds varying from the high end of moderate to the low end of advanced moderate.  There are many long stretches of riding, uninterupted by turns and we will be riding at times by farms and through parts of the Long Island Pine Barrens.  I am trying a few new roads, so some parts are a true scout and we might have a whoops or two.

Please bring your lunch, which we will have when we reach Briermere.  We won't be stopping to pick up lunch.  Also, I will bring some forks and paper plates for anyone who would want to chip in and split a Briermere pie or two (well worth the pretty high cost).  Their blueberry crisp pie is beyond spectacular.  Check out the Briermere website for more info.  Briermere does not sell individual slices of pie, so splitting a pie is the way to go.  You can also get muffins, cookies and some other items, but pie is the best choice.

We meet  at 10:00 at the Yaphank LIRR train station.  You can drive or take the LIRR to the start.  A train from the City arrives at around that time.  If you are taking the train you must transfer at Ronkonkoma for the train towards Greenport, But Yaphank is a pretty quick two stations past Ronkonkoma.

As noted, please bring your lunch, snacks and sufficient hydration.  Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore new and unknown areas.

IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS: A reminder that you must register for the ride.  Please 'unregister' if you can not make the ride so waited list folks can move up and take the slot.  All riders should come equipped with a mask, hand sanitizer/wipes, a spare tube, sunscreen, snacks and a bike in good condition, as well as being familiar with the current criteria for riding with the Club.
