A Scenic Ride at the Beginning of the East End
A Scenic Ride at the Beginning of the East End
Saturday, June 19, 2021 - 11:15

This is a scenic and beautiful 45ish mile variation of a lovely Long Island offering that heads out East to Quogue and surrounding areas with a potential for a quick dip in the ocean.  This ride has only 650 feet of elevation gain with no grade over 2.3% (according to ridewithgps).  Some roads are familiar, some are not, as it is a somewhat new variation, hence it is a partial true scout.  I am sure we will make some wrong turns, both accidentally and deliberately as we explore.

The ride starts around 11:15 at the Speonk LIRR train station.  One can drive and park there or take a train from the City that arrives at that time.  The later start makes getting there easier without getting up at the break of dawn.  The ride is an advanced moderate but will also alternate between a touring pace and a somewhat quicker pace.  Goal would be to get to back to Speonk in time for the 4:40 return train for those taking the LIRR.

Normally, we would stop and pick up lunch, but under the current circumstances, please bring your lunch, snacks and sufficient hydration, as it is very unlikely that we will stop to pick up food.  Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore new and unknown areas.

IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS: A reminder that you must register and I will email the riders with more info.  Please 'unregister' if you can not make the ride so waited list folks can move up and take the slot.  All riders should come equipped with a mask, hand sanitizer/wipes, a spare tube, sunscreen, snacks and a bike in good condition, as well as being familiar with the current criteria for riding with the Club.
