Looks like we are getting a thaw this coming Sunday. Hop on the ferry to Staten Island (take the 9:30 am Ferry from Manhattan - Whitehall Terminal)  and go for a brief spin, with friends, before that cold and wet weather comes again. I will meet everyone at 10 am at the steps of the Staten Island Borough Hall, across from the ferry on Richmond Terrace. The route is only 20 miles. But we will work off a few calories. We will climb a few hills, admire the view and maybe high five each other as we reach the top of the hills.  After leaving Borough Hall, we will ride by the famous St George theatre. Built in 1928 it eventually became run down. In 2004, it was revitalized and is now a thriving active theatre for mostly musical events. https://stgeorgetheatre.com/architecture-2/. We continue our jaunt until mile 3 where we will stop for a breakfast snack at the Beans and Leaves cafe.https://www.beansandleavescafe.com/menu.  After that we will be  traveling on the Clove road bicycle lane (that the Staten Island branch of Transportation Alternatives campaigned for) We will climb past some beautiful homes on Emerson Hill. Our descent will lead us to the shore, with the wind at our backs, hopefully. At mile 17.5 we will stop at the Alice Austin house. She was an exceptional woman of her time, early 1900's.  An accomplished photographer, tennis player and bicyclist, among her other pursuits. https://aliceausten.org/   Finally, we can stop for another snack, about mile 18.8, at the recently built, a few years ago, URBY cafe, https://www.urby.com/  Then just short of the Ferry landing is the National Lighthouse Museum. This site was chosen after a national competition to house the museum. If time allows, we can visit this as well.  http://lighthousemuseum.org/  Just as we leave the lighthouse property, we will be back at the Ferry terminal for the cruise back to Manhattan.
