Beacon via Port Jervis

Saturday, September 9, 2017 - 06:00

Join us for a ride through Norvin Green and Abraham Hewitt State Parks to explore the southern Shawangunk Ridge, from  Point Peter in Port Jervis to the Roosa Gap near Wurtsboro.  Then it's a bee line to the Beacon Metro North station (trains to GCT hourly). There is about 9,000 feet of climbing on this challenging end-of-summer ride.

As this is a Quick Spin, we'll ride without point-drop-sweep, stopping to regroup at the tops of the major climbs. We'll try to maintain 18 MPH on the flats (bike path on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge closes at dusk, just sayin'). Breaks for water and snacks/lunch each 25 miles or so.  Ride with GPS route here (subject to change until Friday 5:00 p.m.).

Please feel free to join us for the first 80 miles to Port Jervis, which has train service back to Penn Station via New Jersey Transit.  There are also NJT stations with service in Glen Rock (21 miles in) and Otisville (96 miles in).

Please bring two spare tubes  and an air supply, two water bottles, pocket food, your Metro North bicycle pass and money for trainfare and food.  As the high for the day is forecast to be about 70, consider wearing something warmer than hot summer gear. Please note the 6:00 a.m. start.
