Port Jervis via Warwick

Saturday, July 1, 2017 - 06:00

A challenging quick spin scout through the great uncharted middle of Orange County. We'll catch all the famous hills through Alpine and Rockland Counties (Alpine, Bradley/Tweed, Little Tor, Gate Hill), then it's through Harriman Park and into Orange County to climb Cedar Mountain and Mt. Peter overlooking Greenwood Lake. Lunch with a friend in Warwick, then scout our way west through the rolling hills of central Orange County, and finish up with three challenging climbs overlooking Port Jervis (1,600 feet of ascent in the last 18 miles).  10,027 feet of ascent in total.  We expect to catch the 5:27 pm NJ transit train back from Port Jervis to NY Penn, arriving 7:50 pm.

As this is a quick spin, we will ride together without point-drop-sweep.  Expect a 19 mile per hour pace on the (occasional) flats.  We will rest at the top of climbs and otherwise as necessary to regroup, and there are scheduled water/bathroom/quick food breaks at the 25-, 45-, and 97-mile marks, in addition to a longer lunch break at the 75-mile mark in Warwick. There is one bail option at 58 miles (NJ Transit in Tuxedo, NY).

Please bring water, two spare tubes and an air supply, pocket food, money for food and train fare, and anything else you think you may need.
