Hudson Valley Escape: Easy, Steady, CLIMB!

This 62.9 miles/ 3,562 ft elevation gain ride provides an escape from NYC’s 5 borough unforgiving heat up to the Hudson Valley's shaded woods. We ride from Poughkeepsie, explore Red Hook via Staatsburgh State Historic Site (http://parks.ny.gov/historic-sites/25/details.aspx) while going over rolling hills to the trendy town of Rhinebeck.
There are several water and snack breaks. The lunch stop is at the Historic Village Diner, http://www.historic-village-diner.com/, a remodelled old railroad car, at 33 miles in Red Hook.
Don’t forget to bring:
- MTA bicycle pass that you need to buy beforehand at Grand Central for $5 at the counter or online (http://web.mta.info/mnr/html/mnrbikepermit.htm)
- Off-peak ticket from GrandCentral to Poughkeepsie.
- Bring bungee cords to secure your bike on the train.
- 2x spare tubes
- Cash for lunch.
- Small bike lock.
This is an advanced ride. Road bikes ONLY. Average speed is 15-17 mph (on flat). We may make speed adjustments depending on the group and temperature.
Meeting time is 7:30 am at Grand Central (with your ticket) to board the 7:43 am train to Poughkeepsie. You can also board the train at 125 Street. Please notify any of the leaders to let us know if you are planning to board at 125th Street.
