The Newark-Sandy Hook Run III

55+ miles, moderate 10-12mph pace
Finally rescheduled! Quasi training ride to the tip of the Jersey Shore, from Brick City. Note 10-12mph cycling pace. We’ll start going after intros. Be prepared to endure some busy traffic, several bridges, some hills, some limbo as well as some tongue-tied excitement. Some select NJ Transit bailouts for trains, if needed. We will have at least one mandatory rest stop along the way before lunch bordering Matawan at the 35 mile mark. We will then go on the Henry Hudson Trail, with an option to go through Keansburg. At the town of Atlantic Highlands, we can choose the hilly Ocean Blvd. or continue on the flat multi-surface (asphalt, gravel, uneven wooden timbers, etc.) Popamora portion of the Henry Hudson greenway along the Raritan River. At Highlands, we’ll get boat tickets to Manhattan ($31 includes bike access – boat leaves Sandy Hook 3:45PM, 5:45PM and 7:45PM). We're more likely to finish after 5:30 PM. Be sure to bring two filled water bottles or a hydration pack - it’ll be hot out there baby, along with sunscreen and sunglasses – this is summer road cycling. You don’t want to get bitten by a Cicada. And a bungle cord to tie down your bike to a train or boat. Check the 5BBC Facebook page for any updates. Let’s a have great and safe ride.
